Making Fine Adjustments to a Printable

In some cases, your Printable may not print perfectly.

Printers can vary slightly from model to model, which can mean the ID Maker Printable could be slightly misaligned from where your specific printer needs to be told to print.

It's important to note that this is for minor adjustments. If you are having a problem with misprinting that is off by more than 0.5 inches (12mm) - there is likely a different problem.

Other possible problems:

  1. You may not be setting the correct print settings when printing. Be sure to follow your print instructions to the letter.
    1. Be sure that you are setting your Scaling/Fit options to 100%/Actual Size. If this setting is not set you will get misprints no matter what else you do. This is the number 1 mistake customers make when trying to print.
  2. You may be selecting the wrong option in ID Maker for your setup. Be sure you are selecting the correct Tray or Teslin layout for the products you are using. For example, there are numerous different trays and they have slightly variations - so if you select the wrong tray, it may print - but not look right - double check this.

Making Minor Adjustments to a Printable

If you've determined both that you are generating the correct Printable and you are selecting all of the correct print settings, and your print is off by less than 0.5 inches (12mm), then read on for how to make manual adjustments.

On the Generate Printable page, check the box: "I want to manually adjust this Printable".

The way our Printables determine where to place your card images is simple:

  1. They know where the first card should be placed. This can be adjusted using Page Margins. Page Margins adjust the entire document - so all cards will move by this amount.
  2. They know where each subsequent card should be placed relative to that first card. Card Distances adjust the distance between cards.
    1. On layouts with more than two cards (for example, Teslin 8-Up layouts), it works the same way - but each card position is calculated based on the position of the previous card instead of just relative to the first card.

All adjustments can be positive or negative.

There are four properties that you can change described below.

Not all options are available for all setups.
For example, if your printable has cards next to each other horizontally, there is no bottom card, so you won't have the Card Vertical Distance option.

  • Page Margin Left
    • This changes the left print position of the furthest left cards in your Printable.
    • Increasing this value pushes both card templates to the right, without changing the horizontal distance in between them.
    • Decreasing this value pulls both card templates to the left, without changing the horizontal distance in between them.
  • Page Margin Top
    • Increasing this value pushes both card template down, without changing the vertical distance between them.
    • Decreasing this value pulls both card templates up, without changing the vertical distance between them.
  • Card Horizontal Distance
    • The card(s) on the left side of the Printable are not affected by this setting.
    • Increasing this distance pushes the cards on the right further to the right, while the left cards stay in the same position.
    • Decreasing this distance pulls the cards on the right closer to cards on the left, while the left cards stay in the same position.
  • Card Vertical Distance
    • The first/top cards on the page are not affected by this setting.
    • Increasing this distance adds more space between cards that are printed on top of one another.
    • Decreasing this distance reduces the space between cards that are printed on top of one another.

Again, it's important to note that this is for  minor adjustments. If you are having a problem with misprinting that is off by more than 0.5 inches (12mm) - there is likely a different problem.
